Rwanda Forensic Institute (RFI) Launches Nationwide Training for Judges on the Use of Forensic Evidence in Judicial Proceedings
On Monday, 21st July 2025, Rwanda Forensic Institute (RFI) officially commenced a series of training sessions for judges on the fundamentals of forensic science and its application in the administration of justice. The inaugural session, held at the Kigali Convention Centre, was officiated by Dr. Charles Karangwa, Director General of RFI.
This initiative aims to enhance the judiciary's understanding of forensic evidence and to encourage greater reliance on science-based evidence in adjudication processes. The training is designed to strengthen judicial capacity to critically evaluate forensic findings and ensure that rulings are grounded in objective, verifiable evidence.
The program targets all judicial personnel across the country, with the overarching goal of equipping approximately 1,000 professionals within the justice sector—including judges, prosecutors, and legal practitioners—with practical knowledge of forensic disciplines and their evidentiary value.
This effort is in line with RFI’s strategic plan to contribute to a more evidence-led justice system, thereby reinforcing the integrity, credibility, and efficiency of judicial processes in Rwanda.
