Wildlife & Environmental Forensics (Coming Soon)

A specialised forensic programme under development to support investigations involving wildlife crime, illegal trafficking, environmental pollution, natural resource offenses, and biodiversity protection through scientific analysis and expert interpretation.

Planned Services

The future Wildlife & Environmental Forensics programme is expected to provide the following services:

Wildlife Species Identification

  • Identification of protected wildlife species and wildlife products using morphological and molecular techniques.

Wildlife DNA Analysis

  • DNA analysis to determine species identity and support investigations involving illegally traded wildlife and wildlife products.

Environmental Evidence Examination

  • Scientific analysis of soil, water, vegetation, and other environmental samples associated with criminal investigations.

Illegal Wildlife Trade Investigations

  • Examination of ivory, horns, skins, timber, and other wildlife products to support investigations into illegal trafficking.

Environmental Pollution Investigations

  • Scientific support for investigations involving environmental contamination and pollution incidents.

Illegal Logging and Timber Identification

  • Identification of timber species and examination of wood products to support forestry enforcement.

Expert Scientific Reporting

  • Preparation of scientific reports and expert opinions for investigative and judicial purposes.

Strategic Vision

The Wildlife & Environmental Forensics programme forms part of RFI's commitment to expanding forensic science capabilities in response to emerging challenges affecting biodiversity, environmental protection, and transnational crime. The programme aims to contribute to national security, environmental sustainability, and regional cooperation through the application of internationally recognized forensic science principles and practices.
