Multimedia Forensics Services

The Forensic Institute (FI) provides expertise in multimedia forensic services to identify, preserve, authenticate, analyze, and interpret multimedia evidence, including audio recordings, images, video, and CCTV footage. Using advanced forensic tools and internationally recognized methodologies, our scientists examine multimedia evidence to determine its authenticity, integrity, origin, characteristics, and evidential significance. Our analyses support law enforcement agencies, courts, government institutions, and other authorized clients by providing objective, impartial, scientifically reliable, and legally defensible forensic findings.

Audio forensics

Audio forensics is the scientific examination, analysis, enhancement, authentication, and interpretation of audio recordings for forensic and investigative purposes. At the Forensic Institute (FI), audio forensic examinations are conducted using validated forensic methodologies and specialized audio analysis tools to assess the evidential value, authenticity, quality, and characteristics of recorded audio.

Audio forensic services:

  • Speaker identification and verification: examination of speech characteristics to assess whether a questioned recording is consistent with a known speaker. 

  • Audio authentication: assessment of whether an audio recording is original, continuous, or has been altered, edited, manipulated, or synthetically generated. 

  • Audio enhancement:  improving the intelligibility of relevant speech or sounds while preserving the evidential integrity of the recording. 

  • Audio event analysis: examination and interpretation of relevant sounds, speech, conversations, alarms, impacts, machinery, or other acoustic events captured in recordings. 

  • Deepfake and synthetic-audio examination: assessment of audio for indications of AI-generated, voice-cloned, or otherwise synthetically manipulated content. 

Image forensics

Image forensics is the scientific examination, analysis, enhancement, authentication, and interpretation of digital images to determine their origin, integrity, authenticity, characteristics, and evidential significance. At the  Forensic Institute (FI), image forensic examinations are conducted using specialized forensic software, validated analytical techniques, and internationally recognized forensic methodologies.

Image forensic services:

  • Image authentication: examination of digital images to determine whether they are original or show indications of editing, manipulation, compositing, or other alterations. 

  • Image enhancement: improving the visibility of relevant details, such as faces, objects, text, vehicle registration plates, or other features, while maintaining the integrity of the original evidence. 

  • Image manipulation and tampering detection: identification and assessment of potential cloning, splicing, copy-paste operations, resizing, recompression, filtering, or other forms of digital manipulation. 

  • Metadata examination: analysis of available EXIF and other metadata to obtain information about the image, such as capture device, date and time, file properties, and processing history, where available. 

  • Face recognition: a comparison of questioned and known images to assess similarities and differences in relevant visual or technical characteristics. 

  • Face and object examination: analysis of visible facial, physical, or object characteristics for investigative comparison, subject to the quality and limitations of the evidence. 

  • Geometric and dimensional analysis: examination of spatial relationships, measurements, perspectives, and other image characteristics where the image quality and acquisition conditions permit reliable analysis. 

  • AI-generated and synthetic-image examination: assessment of images for indications of AI generation, synthetic content, or digitally manipulated elements. 

Video forensics/CCTV footage

Video forensic/CCTV footage forensics is the scientific examination, analysis, enhancement, authentication, and interpretation of video recordings and CCTV footage for forensic and investigative purposes. At the  Forensic Institute (FI), video forensic examinations are conducted using specialized forensic software, validated analytical techniques, and internationally recognized forensic methodologies to assess the authenticity, integrity, content, and evidential significance of video evidence.

Video forensic/CCTV footage services:

  • Video authentication and integrity examination: assessment of video files for indications of editing, manipulation, deletion, insertion, recompression, or other alterations. 

  • CCTV footage examination: systematic examination of CCTV recordings to identify and document relevant persons, vehicles, objects, activities, events, and movements. 

  • Video enhancement: improvement of the visibility or intelligibility of relevant details, such as faces, vehicle registration plates, clothing, objects, text, or other features, while preserving the original evidence. 

  • Object, person, and vehicle examination: analysis and comparison of visible characteristics of persons, vehicles, objects, clothing, and other relevant features captured in the footage. 

  • Vehicle registration plate examination: enhancement and analysis of vehicle registration plates where sufficient visual information is available. 

  • Event and movement analysis: reconstruction and documentation of the sequence, timing, direction, and interaction of relevant events captured on video. 

  • Video metadata and technical examination: assessment of available metadata, file structure, encoding parameters, frame rate, resolution, timestamps, and other technical characteristics. 

  • Time and timestamp assessment: examination of timestamps and recording information, including assessment of apparent discrepancies where relevant information is available. 

  • Photogrammetric and measurement analysis: where the quality, camera geometry, and recording conditions permit, extraction or estimation of measurements, distances, dimensions, or spatial relationships from video footage. 

  • Facial recognition: the scientific examination and comparison of facial images captured in video footage or CCTV recordings to assess whether a person depicted in questioned footage is consistent with a known reference image or person.

  • 3D Reconstruction and Scene Visualization: reconstruction or visualization of relevant objects, environments, or events using suitable photographic, video, photogrammetric, or other digital evidence.

  • AI-generated and manipulated video examination: assessment of video footage for indications of synthetic content, deepfakes, frame manipulation, or other forms of digital alteration.
